Tue 6 Nov 2007 - Stupid People in America

First ... Thanks Chandramoon for pointing in this direction.

I guess it would be really funny ... if it weren't so true. It almost makes me ashamed of being an American ... it really shows the sad state of our school system and these people obviously don't watch any news programs ...

So ... how many questions did you get right ... hmmmmm?

They must have been interviewing people in Kentucky or West Virginia or something because I got all of them right. I was so embarrassed.

Really I can't believe this! I knew all the questions, they are on the news every day. These people are absolutely not interested in history or geography., not even in what's going on today.

By the way I don't want any one to think I posted this on my blog - because I didn't - but I saw it somewhere and used it to point out that this is the sort of thing that gives America a bad name round the world - the worst thing is going to war based on ignorance and that's true for our government too - all that crap about weapons of mass destruction for example.

I don't care how much you change a label ... a map is a map ... no wonder so many people get lost ... and need a GPS to tell them where to go ... LOL

Honest to pete! How sad, I easily knew all of those answers. I have to wonder where they found these people and if it was an effort, or attempt to make all American's appear stupid. Well, they sure as hell succeeded with this one!

I don't think that people around the world think that American's in general are stupid..necessarily. I think it's more directed at our administration and our lawmakers as to whose stupid. And now with all of this early political wrangling for a presidential nomination, we're all pretty much seeing stupid.
I feel sorry for the people in that video, they'll live their lives in total ignorance.

I should've said that up there ... but I do thank you for pointing me in that direction.

The point you were making is right on ... which is why I wanted to share it with others.

There are many of us who are American, who not only get a bad rap because of idiots like those in this clip ... but it's those same idiots that voted for those other idiots we have in office that got us in a war where we didn't belong in the first place!!!

Yeah ... it makes me mad ... I want to shake these people and ask them how they got sooooo STUPID!!!

There ... I feel better now ... lol

The people here have been lied to so much by the people they thought they could trust that they just don't care anymore. They don't know who to believe or not.

This "No Child Left Behind" thing is a joke! They can't teach the children what they really need to learn when they are focusing so much on those stupid tests! Did you see how many of those people were young?

They are taught to follow like sheep ... and they do ... all the way to mindless slaughter!!!

Well, not everyone is led like sheep. College kids have a choice, and have the resources to learn and know better. Many are scholastically and morally dumb when they leave high-school, and carry that with them on to college. Knowing who is who and what's going on in this country should be important to them yet is not.

This ultimately has nothing to do with this administration, it begins with the parents not helping to teach their children, and then as those children come into young adult-hood, it becomes a laziness and irresponsibility to know, or learn what's going on around you, and around your world. To go back and say that these people's stupidity is the fault of Bush, (which is what you implied), and that they've been lied to for so long by the people that they're supposed to be able to trust, is a bad stretch at best.

Have you ever seen Jay Leno when he hits the streets of Hollywood asking people specific questions about known people, politics or current events? Now granted it's Hollywood, and the combined intelligence quotient there is probably around 53, but the people he picks, at random, are not only embarrassing to themselves, but embarrassing to this country...just like the video you posted. You can't say that they've been lied to so much, and that they're being led like sheep...to slaughter, (well, I guess you did anyway, lol), and be serious. That's just not so.

Aren't you smart enough to learn, and be responsible on your own? And those immediately around you? You're not being led like a sheep, and regardless of your position on things at least you could answer those questions. Yes...even a liberal weenie-head like you...lmol!!!! can know some things!! Still love ya though Tara baby!

Thu 8 Nov 2007 - LOL ... Oh Michael!

Posted by womanoffeathers
Yes ... I am laughing ... LOL

Now ... as for the schools. When I was in Mount Miguel High School, I had a Civics teacher named Seth Carpenter (and for me to remember his name after all these years, means something) that not only got us students riled up ... but also the parents ... until they found out why.

He said ... "Millionaires don't pay taxes!"

What he got us to do was ...
1. Question authority
Not defy ... just question with an open mind, why they do things the way they do ... only then can we learn
2. Watch the news
All the news, not just one. Watch, listen and then think about what you saw and what you heard.
3. Read newspapers (and bring in clippings)
All types of newspapers ... really search for what you are looking for.

Now this was in 1968 ... we didn't have the internet yet ... nor did we have all the different news medias we have now ... which, in actuality ... should make it easier.

Are the kids of today urged to do this? Are they graded on that? Are they really allowed to "Question Authority" ... and be vocal about it (peacefully, of course)?

More later ... yes ... I am a liberal weeniehead ... lol

I can testify to the remembering a teachers name after all these years, as I remember a couple of my teachers from my high school that had a lasting affect on me ....Lake Highlands High School, Dallas, Texas.

I like the sound of your old Civics teacher, and I do question those that "pretend" to be authority...it's in my nature. I inherited my appetite for news whether it be from the newspaper, news magazines, or the TV, from my dad. And also my conservative views. I guess I was born a Republican, but one in the true sense of the ideals that make the party better than the other, (yes...I said that!).

Like my dad I'm not a wishy-washy conservative, I maintain the true ideals of conservatism, unlike some of the so-called conservatives of today. I question them just the same as I question liberals, of course I think that liberals are pretty much wrong about everything, but that doesn't mean that I DON'T question my own party...especially on their inability to get some important issues of today resolved.

Are the kids of today urged to do this? Are they graded on that? Are they really allowed to "Question Authority" ... and be vocal about it (peacefully, of course)?

I don't think so, more than not I think that they just echo what their parents may say, if they say anything at all. And I'm talking about politics or current events that affect our lives, safety and well being. As we learned in the video you posted, some people are really dumb, which in turn reflects on the other people of America...and you and I and others don't like being embarrassed like that!

Right there is your lack of learning, of questioning, but those people were very vocal about their ignorance!

I'm starting to believe there should be an intelligence test for voting. You know, something very easy and basic, just to screen out the complete idiots. Miss too many answers and BZZZZZZT!, sorry, asshole, you're too dumb to vote.

Yup.

What's really sad is ... the "legal' naturalized citizens would pass with flying colors ... they have to pass a test before they can become citizens ... as for the one's born here?

I think they need a wake up call ... yeah ... let's test them ... lol

ok, So I will be the one to admit I am stupid. I would have done alright with the geology questions. I would have been able to answer the one about a country starting with a "U". The one about Buddhist monks too. A few of the others as well.

The political ones about who we should invade next and those kind of questions I would be lost on. Not so much because I am dumb, but because it depends on what news you watch. Around here it seems news has turn into opinions and not so much news.

Hey ... at least you are honest about what you could or could not answer.

As for the different medias being more opinions than news ... that's why I like to watch all of them ... and make my own opinion ...

Geez Tara...does that mean you're glued to CBS and cutesy Katie Couric, and then flip over to the wonderful and impartial CNN with Chris Matthews?? Lol...

Katie may be "cutesy" to you ... but to me, she is a mindless bimbo doing a puppet's job ... Chris Matthews is funny, but there is someone I do respect at CNN ... actually 2 people ... Anderson Cooper and Larry King.

I also respect ...
ABC ... Bob Woodruff - I shouldn't have to explain this one.
Peter Jennings - He did his research, and then some.
Ted Kopple - The man was in his 70's and was still enbeded with the troops.

I will give you more News Channels later ... it's been a long day and I have another one tomorrow.
